Yes. Your wishes are encrypted at rest using AES-256 and transmitted over TLS. Only you can see your wishes while you're alive — beneficiaries receive access only after a verified death notification is processed.
What happens when I pass away?
A trusted contact submits a death report through your personal notification link. Our team verifies the report, then your designated beneficiaries receive secure one-time links to the wishes you chose to share with them.
Can I update my wishes?
Absolutely. Your Afterword is yours to edit anytime. Log in, update anything, and save — your latest version is always what's on file. An annual Update Pass add-on keeps revision access open indefinitely.
Who can access my wishes?
Only the beneficiaries you explicitly name. Each receives access to only the wishes you've designated for them — no one else can see your content, and you're in control of every sharing decision.
Is this legally binding?
Afterword is a personal planning and communication tool, not a legal will. We strongly recommend pairing it with a formal will or estate attorney. The Premium plan includes a digital notary certificate that can help establish the authenticity of your recorded wishes.
